Meet iKhaya le Themba - the home of hope
iKhaya le Themba is an after-school programme based in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.
Their name says it simply: the home of hope.
Every weekday at 1pm, their doors open for 175 children in grades 1 to 7. Children who come from circumstances shaped by poverty, food insecurity, and instability - and who arrive here to find something steady: a caring team, a hot meal, help with homework, and the kind of consistent presence that builds trust over time.
Founded in 2004 in partnership with the Imizamo Yethu community, iKhaya began as a simple idea: a safe place with a hot meal and homework help for 45 children. Over the past 20+ years, it has grown into a full, holistic programme with a reinforced learning curriculum, an extended family of staff, volunteers, and supporters — and hundreds of changed stories.

“If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and grow.”

Why The Strangers Club stands behind iKhaya
It is impossible to ignore the hardships faced in this country. It is also impossible to ignore the grit, reliance and positivity that people put forward. South Africa is an obviously beautiful place but the undeniable soul felt that makes it such a wonder, we believe, is thanks to the people that call it home. Programmes that provide support and learning during the shaping years of a child’s life will help positively shape future generations in our country. For families to know that there are places they can rely on when they cannot provide this care and stability themselves - that matters enormously.
What iKhaya le Themba has built is something we deeply appreciate and admire. The consistency, the care, the belief that every child deserves a safe place to land - it is exactly the kind of work that deserves to be seen and supported.
We welcome a large number of people through our doors every day. We want to use that reach deliberately. By partnering with iKhaya, every visit to The Strangers Club becomes a small moment of awareness. The more people who know about this work, the stronger the network of support around it.
What your donation does
Donations go directly towards covering the cost of a daily meal for the children at iKhaya. For many of them, it’s the only reliable, nutritious meal counted on each day - and it’s what makes everything else the programme offers possible.
Your donation today is part of that. Thank you for being in it with us.
Thank you for choosing to give
Your donation is part of something bigger than a single transaction.
It is part of an ongoing relationship between people who care, a local business that wants to use its platform thoughtfully, and an organisation that has spent more than two decades showing up for children in Hout Bay.
We are deeply grateful for your support.
